Welcome to St. Louis. Like every other major city, it was meant to disappear beneath a mushroom cloud, but the missile went off course and its warheads failed to detonate. Chaos, deprivation, and bloodshed took their toll before a new order emerged. By the time you were born, nearly two dozen great houses had formed, ruling everything from agriculture to industry to the specifics of your daily life.
On the southern edge of the city, the remnants of the Army National Guard works to get the best deal they can for the citizens living under their protection. That usually means trying to work with the great houses. But not today. Scientists whose identities are hidden beneath masks and robes are the city's greatest resource, and one of them wants to defect. You've been tasked with securing her, finding out what she knows, and helping her survive the aftermath of her betrayal. It's an ugly job, but it just might save the people struggling in the rotten shadow of this new order.
